Kukke Subramanya Hotels

Kukke Subramanya hotels are located in and around Kukke Subramanya in Dakshina Kannada district, about 80 km from Mangalore. The biggest attraction here is the Kukke Subramanya temple where the presiding deity is Subramanya, Lord Shiva’s son, and Sheshanaga. However, Kukke Subramanya hotels do not offer a great many options since the Kukke Subramanya temple runs many choultries, especially on temple street and it is fairly simple to get accommodation. However, the accommodation is quite basic and some of the facilities are shared. So over the years there have been some hotels, but these are located some distance away. However, most do not serve food and this has to be kept in mind. Among the Kukke Subramanya hotels the most popular one seems to be Senani Residency which is located near the river Kumaradhara. It is a basic hotel with clean and neat rooms, but the biggest attribute is the friendly and helpful staff. Another of the Kukke Subramanya hotels is Sheshanag Ashraya opposite Post Office which is also clean and known for its service. Its biggest distinction: it was where Sachin Tendulkar reportedly stayed when he visited Kukke. Apart from this the other big hotel is Mayura Residency on Car Street which is good value for money. Other Kukke Subramanya hotels are V Sadana Lodge, Shanmukha Residency, Suraksha Lodge and Anugraha Lodge. For visitors who are not particular about staying in Kukke and would prefer to travel a bit for more lavish facilities than what is offered by Kukke Subramanya hotels then Mangalore which has plenty of hotel options is a good idea.

ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಕುಕ್ಕೆ ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಈಗಲೂ ಊರ್ಜಿತದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ‘ಅಮಾನವೀಯ’ ಮತ್ತು ರೋಗಕಾರಕ ‘ಮಡೆಸ್ನಾನ’ವೆಂಬ (ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣರು ಊಟ ಮಾಡಿದ ಎಲೆಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಕೆಳ ಜಾತಿಯವರು ಬೀದಿ ಉರುಳು ಸೇವೆ ಮಾಡುವುದು) ಅನಿಷ್ಠ ಪದ್ಧತಿಯನ್ನು ತಕ್ಷಣ ಅಂತ್ಯಗೊಳಿಸಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಕಾಯಕರ್ತರು ಮತ್ತು ಲೇಖಕರು ಬಿಜೆಪಿ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಮೇಲೆ ಒತ್ತಡ ಹೇರಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣರ ಎಂಜಲಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ಶೂದ್ರರ ಉರುಳು ಸೇವೆಯನ್ನು ಖಂಡಿಸಿ ಮತ್ತು ಈ ಅನಿಷ್ಟ ಪದ್ಧತಿಯ ಆಚರಣೆಯನ್ನು ಕಾನೂನುಬದ್ಧವಾಗಿ ನಿಷೇಧಿಸುವಂತೆ ಆಗ್ರಹಿಸಿ ಕುಕ್ಕೆ ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯದ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದ ಮುಂದೆ ಡಿ.10 ಮತ್ತು 11 ರಂದು ಪತಿಭಟನೆ ನಡೆಸಲಾಗುವುದು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಹಿಂದುಳಿದ ವರ್ಗಗಳ ಒಕ್ಕೂಟದ ಮುಖಂಡ ಕೆ ಶಿವರಾಮು ಹೇಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಈ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನವು ಮುಜರಾಯಿ ಇಲಾಖೆಗೆ ಸೇರಿದ್ದು, ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಇನ್ನೂ ‘ಮಡೆಸ್ನಾನ’ ಊರ್ಜಿತದಲ್ಲಿರುವುದು ದುರಂತ. ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳ ಸಮ್ಮುಖದಲ್ಲೇ ನಡೆಯುವಂತಹ ಈ ಅನಿಷ್ಠ ಪದತಿಗೆ ಕೊನೆಗಾಣಿಸಬೇಕು. ಕೆಳವರ್ಗವನ್ನು ಮೇಲ್ವರ್ಗದವರು ತುಳಿಯುವಂತಹ ಇಂಥ ಪದ್ಧತಿ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ತಕ್ಷಣ ಕ್ರಮ ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು” ಎಂದು ಒತ್ತಾಯಿಸಿರುವ ಒಕ್ಕೂಟವು ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾಡಳಿತಕ್ಕೆ ಮನವಿಯೊಂದನ್ನು ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದೆ.

ಪೇಜಾವರಶ್ರೀ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಪ್ರೊ. ಜಿಕೆ ವಾಗ್ದಾಳಿ: ’ದಲಿತರ ಕೇರಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡಿ ತಾನು ಅಸ್ಪೃಶ್ಯರ ಪರವಾಗಿದ್ದೇನೆ ಎಂದು ಸಾರುತ್ತಿರುವ ಪೇಜಾವರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗೆ, ಈ ಸಮಾಜದಲ್ಲಿ ದೇವರ ಹೆಸರಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಮಡೆಸ್ನಾನದಂತಹ ದಲಿತರ ಮೇಲಿನ ದೌರ್ಜನ್ಯ ಕಾಣುವುದಿಲ್ಲವೇ?’ ಎಂದು ಪ್ರಶ್ನಿಸಿದ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಕಾರ್ಯಕರ್ತ ಜಿ ಕೆ ಗೋವಿಂದ ರಾವ್, ’ಇಂತಹ ಪದ್ಧತಿ ಮುಂದುವರಿಯಲು ಅವಕಾಶ ನೀಡುವುದು ಕ್ರಿಮಿನಲ್ ಪ್ರಕಿಯೆಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ’ ಎಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಏನಿದು ಮಡೆಸ್ನಾನ?: ಕುಕ್ಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುವಂತಹ ಈ ಅನಿಷ್ಠ ಮತ್ತು ಜಾತೀಯ ನಿಂದನಾತ್ಮಕ ಪದ್ಧತಿಯ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಅತ್ತ ಮೈಸೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿಭಟನೆ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದಂತೆ ಇತ್ತ ಕುಕ್ಕೆ ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯ ದೇವಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿನ್ನೆ ಉರುಳು ಸೇವೆ ಅರ್ಥಾತ್ ’ಮಡೆಸ್ನಾನ’ ನಡೆದಿದೆ. ಷಷ್ಠಿ ಮತ್ತು ಪಂಚಮಿ ಅಂಗವಾಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ನಡೆದಿದೆ.

ವ್ರತಧಾರಿಗಳು ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಕುಮಾರಧಾರ ನದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಿಂದು, ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಬೀದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಉದ್ದಕ್ಕೆ ಉರುಳುತ್ತಾ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರದಕ್ಷಿಣೆ ಬರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಈ ಸೇವೆ ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣರು ಊಟ ಮಾಡಿದ ಎಲೆಗಳ ರಾಶಿಯ ಮೇಲೂ ನಡೆಯುವುದುಂಟು. ಕುಕ್ಕೆ ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣರು ಉಂಡು ಬಿಸಾಡುವ ಎಂಜಲಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ಉರುಳು ಸೇವೆ ಮಾಡಿದರೆ, ಚರ್ಮರೋಗ ಗುಣವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದಾಗಿ ಶೂದ್ರರಲ್ಲಿ ಅಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ಬಿತ್ತಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಮೂಢನಂಬಿಕೆ ಮೂಲಕ ಜನರನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮ ಹದ್ದುಬಸ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಇದಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ದಲಿತ ಮುಖಂಡರು ಟೀಕಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
