Subramanya April 3: Little-known until last year, Sri Kukke Subramanya Temple had hit the news headlines when the sporting icon Sachin Tendulkar who was struggling to return to form, visited here in May 2006. Situated in Subramanya around 44 KiloMeters from Sullia, "Sarpa Dosha Nivaraka" Lord Subramanya has attracted all, be it liquor baron Vijay Mallya to the famed Raj Kapoor family, from Union ministers to chief ministers, all have visited this temple.
Batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar and his family's visit was followed by many more cine stars from Bollywood and from south as well, the recent addition to the list of visitors being Dream Girl of Bollywood Hema Malini. Hema Malini arrived today 3rd April 2007 noon, along with her two daughters Esha Deol and Ahana Deol and her close relative RK Chakraborthy.
Due to the pathetic conditions of the roads here, the star family had to arrive here from Mangalore via Puttur and Sullia. When asked about her visit to this temple town, Hema Malini said "I have heard a lot about this temple and always wanted to visit here. This time I am visiting to perform rituals for propitiating the serpent deity to overcome Naga Dosha."
Hema malini along with her daughters were welcomed by Administrative member of the temple, TV Bhat along with Administrative officer Ningayya and public relations officer Venkat Raj.
When asked about her role in the upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh, she said "The people of UP need a change in the state administration. BJP is very confident of coming to power. I have already campaigned in 10 constituencies including Agra and Kanpur and I am confident that BJP will come to power"
The actress and her family also had lunch at the temple and later offered 'Ashlesha bali' and 'Naga Pratishte' before leaving for Mangalore in the evening.
